Sorbic acid

White free flowing powder with characteristic odor. Partially soluble in water, soluble in ethanol. No visible colour changes when heated at 105ºC for 90 minutes.


For the manufacture of food products, excluding all retail. Limited use.

Used as antifungal for the food industry. Fatty preparations 1,000 ppm. Alcoholic and soft drinks 200 ppm. Fruit juice concentrates 600 ppm. Dried egg products 1,000 ppm. 2,000 ppm dough for battering. Precooked bread and specialty breads 2,000 ppm. Pastries, cakes and biscuits with water activity higher than 0.65 2,000 ppm. Dairy desserts non heat-treated 300 ppm.

Meets 231/2012/EC Regulations.
