Maltitol has sweetness of 0.9 as sugar and half calorie content than sugar. It is very soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol.

It is a polyol that replicates sugar functionality by having a similar sweet taste with the advantage that generates half the calories and does not develop dental plaque growth.
